Wound Care Technician

Job Description

The Wound Care Technician assists healthcare providers in delivering high-quality wound care treatment to patients. This role involves preparing treatment areas, applying and changing dressings, maintaining medical supplies and ensuring patient comfort during procedures. The Wound Care Technician works closely with wound care nurses, physicians, and other medical professionals to promote optimal healing and patient outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the application and removal of wound dressings as directed by healthcare providers.

  • Clean and prepare wound care treatment areas following infection control protocols.

  • Monitor and document patients' wound conditions, reporting any changes to the supervising nurse or physician.

  • Maintain and stock wound care supplies, ensuring availability of necessary materials.

  • Educate patients and caregivers on wound care management and proper dressing techniques.

  • Adhere to all safety and infection control guidelines to prevent cross-contamination.

  • Assist with patient positioning and comfort during wound care treatments.

  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising wound care nurse or physician.

  • Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/ regulations.

  • Understand and support the department policies and procedures.


SKILLS

  • Perform a variety of technical procedures that requires judgement, competent skills and expertise.

  • Must have basic knowledge of medical assisting, nursing and wound care.

  • Basic understanding of wound types, healing processes and infection control.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective patient interaction.

  • Customer focus and adaptability to different personality types.

  • Basic computer skills for documentation management.

  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities and manage time effectively.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.

  • Certification as a Wound Care Technician, strongly preferred.


EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-2 years of experience as a Wound Care Technician, HIGHLY preferred.

  • Previous experience in wound care, nursing assistance, or a related healthcare field preferred.

  • 1-2 years of experience with Medical Software or EMR, preferred.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and all areas of accessing medical information, including medical terminologies, provider templating, maintains a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, preferred.
